Key Finding: Fuel Switches Were Off Before Crash
The Air India report might provide some answers, yet it may not bring peace to the affected families.A preliminary report on the plane crash reveals a crucial detail: the aircraft's fuel switches were turned off just before it went down.
Graham Braithwaite, an expert in aerospace and aviation from Cranfield University, explained that these particular switches are very important and are designed so they can't be accidentally bumped or moved. He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that a pilot would have to deliberately lift and firmly move the switch to change its position.
Braithwaite emphasized that the report does not state a pilot moved the switch, and at this early stage of the investigation, it's important to keep all possibilities open.
Regarding broader safety concerns for passengers, Braithwaite clarified that the investigation is focused specifically on this one flight, this particular aircraft, and this day. He added that the Boeing 787 model involved has a strong safety record, having flown a billion passengers safely before this incident.
